8 West are delighted to announce that the SafeTrx Active track and alert wearable is now available in Germany. Working with our partner, Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS) – the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service, we will be providing a purpose-built personal emergency search and rescue system for German open water and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Reliable means of communication in an emergency
Launched at the recent Kitesurf Freestyle Championships in Fehmarn, the SafeTrx Active watch is a direct link to the German rescue control centre operated by the DGzRS, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Bremen.
With the growing popularity of water sports such as kite surfing, windsurfing and wing foiling, there is an increasing need for a reliable means of communication in the event that assistance is needed. The DGzRS has had the mobile safety app “SafeTrx” for years. Now there is also a safety watch available, using the same SafeTrx platform, so people can send emergency and assistance alerts when engaging in their favourite outdoor activity as well as sharing their track live to their friends and family without bringing their smartphone. Ideal when you go out on the sea with just a small board or kayak, or any outdoor activity.
Closing a gap for sea rescuers
The SafeTrx Active watch closes a gap for sea rescuers. Dirk Hinners-Stommel, international SAR consultant of the DGzRS and long-time head of the sea rescue coordination centre: “In our experience, in coastal sports, the mobile phone is rarely taken out onto the water and a mobile app, for example after a fall into the water, hardly ever can be served. The SafeTrx Active Watch was developed primarily with a view to working with the search and rescue services, and we are convinced that the integration into our rescue control centre at sea is an enormous gain in safety, especially for board water sports enthusiasts, but also sea kayakers and anglers.”
‘Buddy Alarm’ for outdoor enthusiasts
Using its ‘Buddy Alarm’ system, the SafeTrx Active watch can also be used outside of the DGzRS service area. Recreational outdoor enthusiasts such as hikers, cross-country skiers, mountain bikers and trail runners can stay connected and can keep friends and family informed of their exact GPS position and status. And, in the case of an emergency, SafeTrx Active sends the GPS coordinates to your emergency contacts and they decide which rescue service needs to be called for action. For adventure seekers, SafeTrx Active allows you to pursue your passion.
SafeTrx Active takes the search out of search and rescue
The SafeTrx Active watch has been designed in very close co-operation with leading Search and Rescue (SAR) organisations from around the world. It’s highly accurate, real time, locating capability minimises the time you’re in distress, enabling the rescue service to get you to safety faster than ever. SafeTrx Active takes the ‘search’ out of search and rescue.
The device is already available to purchase in The Netherlands, Denmark and Norway and is connected to the respective rescue services in each country. The SafeTrx Active watch can be used across these countries, enabling your local search and rescue services to get help to you faster than ever. 8 West are looking forward to shipping the product to new customers in Germany.
